ANSON COUNTY WRITERS’ CLUB ADULT POETRY/PROSE CONTEST RULES
- Contests are open to adults residing in, having resided in, working in, attending school in Anson County, or any member of the Anson County Writers’ Club. There is a $1 entry fee, which is waived for students at any institution of higher learning.
- Poems must be an original work that is previously unpublished in a paid publication, may be in any form, may be on any subject, and may be no longer
- Short stories/essays will be limited to 2,000 words or less.
- Writers should keep in mind that the winning stories will be considered for
- First place winners in each category in 2006 are not eligible for that category in 2007.
- Only one entry in prose or poetry may be submitted by one person.
HOW TO ENTER
- Entries must be double-spaced on standard 8 ˝- by 11-inch paper and must be legible. Typing must be in either 10-point (pica) or 12-point (elite) type size.
- Entries that are the wrong type size, have drawings or colored ink on them, or are illegible or hard to read will be disqualified.
- Two copies of each entry must be submitted.
- On one copy, list the category being entered in the upper right-hand corner (for example, Poetry Adult Category).
- On the second copy, list the category in the upper right-hand corner and include the name, address and telephone number of the entrant. (NOTE: Only one copy should have the name, address and telephone number of the author.)
- All entries must be mailed to the Anson County Writers’ Club 2007 Contests, P.O. Box 363, Wadesboro, N.C., 28170; or turned in to the Hampton B. Allen Library in Wadesboro by 5:30 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2007.
- An official entry form must accompany each entry. Entry forms may be picked up at the Hampton B. Allen Library or the Anson County Chamber of Commerce. Copies of the entry form will be accepted.
- Please indicate on the envelope which contest is being entered. (NOTE: Authors should retain copies of their submissions; submissions cannot be returned.)
OTHER INFORMATION
- Please check permission box on entry form to have entry considered for publication in a future Anson County anthology (not required to enter).
- Judges are selected from published college staff members or professional writing association members.
- Prize money includes $50 for first place, $30 for second place and $20 for third place in both Prose and Poetry categories.
